Fuel Pump Relay and Selespeed Problem
V Reg 156 Selespeed.
Two main problems.
1. Gearbox - Selector.
2. Fuelpump - Relay (possible problem)
I'll start with No.2 first.
When turning on the ignition, and all the while the ignition is on. The fuel pump relay (this is what its makred as) clicks on and off constantly. I have no idea where the pump is located due to the fact I haven't researched it, but as the relay clicks on and off I also here what sounds like a pump (sounds like in engine bay under battery), this bursts at the same time and rate as the relay swithing on and off. (three second intervals)
Thid does has not caused any problems with driving which puzzles me if its the fuel pump ???
Problem No2. Selespeed, need I say more...
I will... To start with I noticed the car wouldn't remain in drive at a junction... sometimes it will sometimes it won't. It just drops out after a few seconds, which I was living with.
Then it started to drop out of gear whilst moving, a pain too say the least but I found I could just press the gear lever and it would return to the correct gear. First time I tried this it was a risk, didn't know if the gears would crash, but it seemed fine.
Now the biggest promblem, the one which has now put me off getting in the damn car. Whilst driving up to a junction the gears remained locked in position, that is, if I was in 5th the car stayed in 5th, and with no clutch you're buggered as the car keeps moving! Turning the engine off is the only option, then you try and turn it on and its still locked in gear.
So I waited, fiddled under the engine with wires I could see. (grasping at straws) then got back in and tried. Worked... but after a short time did it again. Did same, worked, now parked up wondering if I should risk a test drive to see if I can replicate the problem.
Don't know if it was the fiddling with wires or the waiting that sparked it back into life.
This happened during the day, nothing running like lights, radio etc.
Not tried testing battery power yet, will do that shortly.
Any help appreciated.
