156sw - yes, but which power plant?
To re-pose a question which slipped into my Introduce Yourself opener (oops):
I'm retiring my Audi 80 quattro 16v, selling the practical-but-dull Kangoo and about to buy my first Alfa. First contender was a nice all-black 2004 147 jtd TI, which was very entertaining to drive, but ultimately too limiting, space-wise.
So, it looks like being a 156 SW, probably 2003-4. S/H cars are NOT cheap in France, and I need LHD, so can't source it in the UK.
Anyway, I've test driven a very clean 2004 20v 2.4 175 Selective, with Alfa fsh, recent new cambelt/bearings, turbo, etc. Drives well, looks great, but...
Published CO2 emission figures don't look good, and there's the insurance and fuel economy to consider (sorry to be boring), so I suspect that it will be down to a 1.9 140 instead. I hope to find a similarly top-spec model.
So, anyone had this dilemma? My usage is generally fairly relaxed running around rural France, but interspersed with long journeys for work, ski trips, etc. - so I'll actually get to use the ski-flap!
Any insight would be valuable in helping me to decide which way to jump. Thanks.
