brake pad warning sensor

hi , i was going to do the front pads on my alfa but decided to wait and order new front discs aswell, i decided to take off the passenger side front wheel and have a look at the job , bolts etc , you can imagine my suprise to find the brake pad wear sensor lead had been cut, cleanly cut , i only have the car a short while and was wondering if this is some kind of cheap botch job to put the light out on the dash , if so id love to meet the genius that did it , can i easily reconnect???

Re: brake pad warning sensor

Maybe they were using pads that didn't have wear sensors (ie DS2500).
The wear sensors can't be relied upon anyway.

Plus, after a while they were only fitted to one front pad. So that still left 7 pads unmonitored.

Re: brake pad warning sensor

Both the leads on my pads fell out ... of the pad. As David said, they can't be relied on so check them regularly visually.

Re: brake pad warning sensor

Yep, they fell out on my Fiat as well.

Its only a wire embedded in the pad material that makes a circuit when it touches the disk and turns the warning light on.
