Heavy Clutch - 156 JTD 16V MJet

Hi folks, wondering if anyone can throw any light on the problem I'm having with the clutch in my 2004 (04) 156 Sportwagon? Meridien Milano replaced the slave cylinder towards the end of last year, but this hasn't improved things at all. I've pasted my latest email to their service department below - this explains the problems I'm having. Grateful for any responses.

Hi Rob,

I've let a couple of months go by since last bringing the car in, but the clutch problems are now a daily occurence, with the pedal feeling different almost every time it is depressed. It varies between extremely rare periods of lightness and being so heavy that it leaves your thighs aching after driving. In addition, it has also developed a 'click', that occurs occassionally when depressing the pedal. The pedal will travel half-way feeling very heavy, before a click or notch can be felt through your foot, and the pedal then feels much lighter through the rest of it's travel.

I've test-driven nearly a dozen diesel 156's since Christmas, and none of them had a clutch that behaved like mine. In each case they were light and smooth (ie. how mine was when I first bought the car). The Alfa Workshop (an Independent specialist) have also driven the car, and advised me that the clutch needs a total overhaul.

Can I arrange to book it back in with you please?

Kind regards

Thanks for reading.
