My 156 has a drink problem :(
Firstly about the car - its a 2.0 TS manual, 55k miles, 2002 model. It starts fine, never any smoke, pulls smoothly throughout the rev range even when cold.
However, its consuming way too much petrol, but I'm at my wits end as to why. I've been getting sub 20mpg since I bought it 6 months ago, and most of my miles are motorway miles. I normally drive pretty sensibly, and I've always got close to the manufacturers claimed mpg (my old Seat 1.9Tdi averaged 49mpg for me)...
I did an experiment and drove like a saint for a few days, only resting my foot on the throttle, never exceeding 2000 rpm except motorways...the result was a massive 23mpg!
I've heard plenty people claiming close to 40mpg in these kind of conditions, but I'd expect mid 30s realistically.
So what could be going on, do I have to sell her and get a german diesel?
