Or perhaps not..:cheeky:

Never done an oil change before let alone one on a V6 and for the last 2 years I have always used a specialist. The horror stories I have read about it being in the worlds worst location, having to move or release pipes to get it out etc and plenty of grazed knuckles sort of put me off.

I also heard about normal garages refusing to do it which didn't bode well. So last week I plucked up the courage (don't laugh, I can be claustrophobic!) and got right underneath to have a look for myself with advice coming from my friend who dabbles with cars.

We could not understand what the fuss was about, seriously. So today we jacked the car up again and removed the drivers wheel and within 10 minutes the oil was dropped and filter removed. No power steering pipes/brackets were needed to be undone and no tools needed to remove the filter, which meant that the tool I bought to help remove it wasn't needed either and even if it was the access was fine.

The new filter again went on very easily with just a little bit of force needed to push it through the tight gap. I then topped it up with fuchs racing 10/50w and that was it. We both agreed that it was a lot of fuss about nothing, so if you have ever been put off then don't be.

All you need is a jack, a pair of axel stands, a 19mm spanner and possibly an oil filter removal tool in case the filter is really tightly screwed on (I had a claw type removal tool that you attach a rachet to and It would have done the job fine if needed)

The location of the oil filter in the 164 24V is extremely bad. But to be honest, the one in my Accord Euro isn't that great either. Almost as bad as the 164.

This was my understanding, but on my 3.2 with standard manifolds it was fine and there was easy enough access to get my wrench up there and drop the old filter down with a small amount of wriggling. The new filter went up and on in less than a minute.

Depends on how many of the pipe securing fittings are still there - mine has 2. They're not hard, just bit of a pain.

Hardest bit is getting the filter into place without getting any crap on the mounting face - because any crap there goes straight into the main bearings.
