156 2.0 JTS - coolant fluids disappeared

I noticed this morning that my 05 plate, 156 JTS 2.0 took a while for the heating to warm up. Coming back the short distance home, the temperature gauge raised while doing 35mph until luckily about 100 yrds from home the coolant temp warning light came on.

Once home, opened the bonnet, the coolant fluid reservoir is completely empty. Looking around, under the front of the engine there is a flat plastic part about 12 inches across, 1 inch high and 3 inches deep with a 1 inch diameter hose coming off at the right side(as you look into the engine bay from the front). Around the join of this part is moisture and lots of white splatter down the house and surrounding area. Will call the garage tomorrow, any idea how serious this problem is? I have pictures but not sure where I can host them.

thanks in advance.

Sounds like that plastic part has split.
Your's isn't the first to go, relatively straight forward to replace.
That part costs around £30.
Plus obviously coolant.
Your coolant will be 3-years old so due for replacement anyway.

Hopefully it didn't run for long without coolant.

Re: 156 2.0 JTS - coolant fluids disappeared

hi, thanks for the info. Looking again it appears to be a manifold that diverts water to heater, radiator etc. There appears to be a pink residue around the area of the leak, would this suggest Paraflu Red was the antifreeze used? I know have the dilemma of getting the car from home to to the dealer (about 3 miles). I was thinking of adding distilled water on the morning that I'd be taking the car to the garage. They could do the work then renew the antifreeze so it wouldn't be left overnight.

3 miles should be fine, but fill with water just before you set off otherwise it will freeze and/or drain away and then you'll cry when the head gasket pops.
