147 Lusso...Tiptronic Problems

can someone please advise, i purchased an 2001 alfa 147 2.0 Lusso tiptronic a number of weeks ago(Full alfa service stamps from new)80k Miles...
In the last number of weeks the Tiptronic gearbox has started to make crunching noise. From 2nd tipping into 3rd it crunches, from 3 it crunches into 4th...It does not alter speed or fall out of gear. its just making anightmare crunching noise going in and out of gear. I have the up and down tiptronic gear stick and padels on the steering wheel and the stick experiences it going up and down the gears, as does the padels.

Is this a serious problem, has anyone experienced same...I bought it from a dealer int he north who is quite reputable but unfortunatly there is no warranty as i took it across the border.Of course if it has something serious wrong with it i will take it back to his door

i am also getting warning messages on the dash: rear fog light default or something similar and also warning me about air to the oil system...

can anyone please help or advise before i have to take it to an Alfa garage and spend a fortune on it

Thanks gang...

Check you've got enough Selespeed fluid in. It does leak out of a breather somewhere so needs topping up every now and then.

Sounds very much like you have the conventional transmission problems that can occur with the mechanical gearbox? Could be clutch associated as well I guess?:

check brake fluid level, if its low you probably have a leaking slave cylinder on the clutch.

Jug, I thought he was on about the Sele' box? At 80k I guess there could be any amount of worn mechanical components in the gearbox, let alone problems with the electro/hydraulic side of things?Possibly the clutch is at fault as well?:

Re: 147 Lusso...Tiptronic Problems

From the description I'd be guessing that the clutch release bearing is chewed into the clutch diaphragm...so not releasing the clutch fully..I've seen this before - you can "ride" a Selespeed clutch on tickover if you are unsympathetic / paranoid about it dropping into neutral and then not engaging a gear engine (Why would that be?).

TBH - even if its a pain, I'd bounce it back to the dealer (after checking the Selespeed oil levels)...
