Re: Get those EGR Valve's checked ! - the difference is incredible.
All modern engines have an EGR valve, so it could happen to any vehicle.
The main difference is Diesel fuel is more heavy, and when burnt, the sticky particles in the exhaust gases collect in the exhaust manifold and EGR valve.
This has the effect of slowly strangling the exhaust manifold and also the Exhaust Gas feedback (Via EGR valve) to the air intake.
This creates a double whammy, as the exhaust is throttled and the air coming in doesn't have the correct properties burn as it should (some exhaust feedback apparently aids the burn as well as lowering emissions).
My brothers Mondeo TDCi was suffering dire performance, the EGR valve and exhaust manifold were so clogged it was unbelievable.
We cleaned all the black gunk out and the difference was amazing.
It might be easier and cheaper to replace the valve, rather then spend hours cleaning out the sticky mess like we did.
