Nearest longlife is round near Croydon and I can't really be bothered as, to my mind, their selection will be very similar to Powerflow - certainly if their website is anything to go by.
To quantify the poor selection of tips Powerflow had to offer - the CSC box sitting in my living room has twin 60mm outlets which, based on pictures I've seen, fits the cutout in the bumper nicely. The smallest round outlet Powerflow do is 2.5" (63.5mm); I presume he was referring to inside diameter as when I put it next to the CSC it was ridiculously big. I said I was after twin outlets from one box (had to explain to him that I didn't want an outlet either side as I'm not a chav), so he brought out two of these "small" round tips and put them in place... they wouldn't fit in the bumper cutout. When I asked if they had anything smaller he said no, but they could cut away some more of my bumper
No thanks! He even actually said that they get lots of customers asking for smaller pipes but Powerflow don't supply them, I said that maybe they should think about supplying them if it's what people ask for!
So anyway feeling despondent at their inability to supply me with twin outlets (I was in no way going to settle for one of their 1 to two outlet splitters
) I looked for something close to standard, and the only oval one they had had a horrible inner face that was at an angle to the outside and sloped in to a circular inner diameter - I thought it'd be ok but even from a distance it looked substantially different from standard and, hence, chavvy. See the offending pipe here
Anyway I'm rambling - the main bullet point to take away from this presentation is that Powerflow, to my mind, are more concerned with offering 500 different tailpipes to keep the chavs who are more interested in looks than performance, entertained. This was certainly the impression I got from the guy I spoke to anyway, who didn't once mention performance or sound. Didn't wash with me so I'm afraid my business will be going elsewhere!
Soooooo the current
plan (I'm as bad as you Darren
) is to put my MOT back a bit, just let it expire, and not drive the car
while I wait for a replacement CSC box from EBspares. Get that fitted and then have the MOT done, and fingers crossed that'll be the end of it!
A right pain in the ass indeed!
