Re: 147 Cut Out In Motorway Fastlane
Had a thought on this one. Let me tell you what happened with my similar aged 147 and then draw your own conclusions.
I had the engine cut out on me similarly to your event, but not on the motorway thank goodness. When the very nice man from the AA turned up, he confirmed my tentative guess that the crank sensor had failed. He then spent a long period of time cranking the engine over, explaining that sometimes the ecu would pick up and run from the camshaft sensor. No luck to start with, but the oil pressure warning appeared. He kept on cranking and the engine eventually fired up, but with the oil pressure warning and a noisy sounding follower. I got him to stop the engine PDQ and got him to tow me to my local indie.
After the sensor was replaced, oil checked etc, everything was fine. I can't explain why the oil warning appeared, other than not enough oil was being pumped around without the engine running under its own power, but the root cause of it all was the crankshaft sensor.
