(Probably) buying a used GT-few questions
Have been debating over the last few weeks whether of not to go for a used GT JTD or a 1.9JTD facelift 156. Once I found out that I would be paying the same (higher) insurance regardless, I think I'll go for the GT (even allowing for the fact that it will cost me €5,000 to €10,000 extra).
As you will have noticed, I am based in Ireland, and am thinking of travelling to the UK. I will pay tax on import in the region of €6,000 to €7,500 on top of the cost. I could wait until July when that will fall by €1,500 on the 1.9 JTD, but I'm getting married at the start of July, so.......
I am going to pay cash, and say that I am not interested in dealer warranties etc. (it makes no real sense to bring a car back to the UK if it develops a fault in Ireland), so in effect, it will be equivalent to a 'trade sale' for the dealer. My question-what is a realistic reduction to expect on the list price in this scenario? (I am aware that if you don't ask, you don't get etc.)
Secondly, there is a rather nice GT JTD for sale in Ireland (privately) at the moment that I drove last week. 2 issues are-cruise control doesn't work and there is an ugly enough scrape on the rear bumper.
In relation to the cruise control, I understand that this is a common enough problem and could be easy enough to fix. I am unsure about the bumper however-it is the parking sensor variety, and if I was to get it replaced, how much would it cost? And let's say that I could do without the parking sensors, would this be an issue, i.e. replacing the factory fitted bumper with a 'standard' bumper-any issue there (aside from the cost saving I presume)?
I am looking at 2004/2005 models, preferably leather, any colour bar silver, would like BOSE, not too pushed on parking sensors.
Do all 1.9s have the same bhp (150) unless they have been tuned/remapped?
Your comments/advice appreciated.
