Re: How to tighten the handbrake on 156 ?
The cables do stretch and the adjustment is easy.
Get on flat ground, put the car in gear and let off the handbrake (engine off of course!).
Remove pleather handbrake gaiter and adjust long nut that runs parallel to the handbrake arm (13mm). Try 4-5 turns. The handbrake shoudl be on at 3 clicks and rock solid, the wife couldn't manage it, fully on at 4.
Out of gear, start engine, apply footbrake and work the handbrake on an off firmly a few times to settle it in and adjust again if necessary.
Don`t over tighten as you will partially put on the rear brakes which means burnt pads, hot wheels, a slow car and a nasty smell and too much fuel consumption.
