Washer problem

Recently I have noticed a problem with my windscreen washer jets, namely that they don't give out enough liquid, whereas the headlight washers cover the whole front of the car in spray there is that much coming out of them.

What should I be checking to sort this out as as night it makes my headlight beam go funny as the lights get covered in far too much water.

Re: Washer problem

block off your headlight washer pipes and it will direct all the pressure to your windscreen washers.

Re: Washer problem

Hi m0t,

On my car there are two spearate pumps, one for the headlamps and one for the windscreen. The headlamp one is more powerful and wastes a lot of water, so I've disconnected it and wash the headlamps with a sponge when they need it. Check your windscreen nozzle jets for blockages (it's easier to buy new ones as they're very cheap) and also look at the Y piece where the pipe from the pump splits into two - there's a non-return valve in there and that can get blocked too.

Re: Washer problem

I had what I think is the same problem on my 156 JTD (no headlamp washers)..

There wasn't enough liquid coming out of the nozzles, and it was down to the deterioration of the rubber inside the Y-piece, under the scuttle panel. Buy a new Y-piece and replace it, I think your problem will be solved then without turning off your headlamp washers.

On my 156 V6 the headlamp washers have been disabled to save water.. Either that or they just don't work!!
