Hi

I've got a 147 jtdm 150. The clutch started juddering friday at the biting point unless I used a lot of revs. I've not used the car all weekend and used it through the city centre this evening for a short run. The clutch juddered a lot and needed feathering to get it into gear smoothly. I went to drop down a gear smoothly to turn into a junction and pedal went to the floor. I could get it into gear but the clutch was only there right at the bottom of the pedal and it required a crunch to do so. There's also a lot of vibration when pushing the clutch right in I'm guessing where it's not fully engaged.

Is it a new clutch job or could it be something else.

Cheers

sounds like one of the "tabs" has sheared off of the release bearing. The same happened to me and I progressivly lost the clutch in the same way.

New clutch i'm afraid.

Ok thanks. Is there a way to check either of these? The clutch still has some pressure at the bottom but won't engage with the engine running at all. I had to move the car as it was in a pay and display area and managed to get it moving by starting the engine in gear which gave a lot of juddering and feedback through the clutch, but once moving I was again able to crunch gears in at low speed and the biting point to do so was very low.

Check the brake fluid level first of all, see if it's dropped, if there are signs of leaking fluid under the gearbox. Also worth checking the slave cylinder is moving as expected before deciding it's something inside the clutch housing. You can remove the battery and see the clutch operating arm below the battery tray ... check it moves in sync with the clutch pedal (not much movement 20mm or so). If it does then it's likely something inside the clutch housing that's broken, not related to the external hydraulics.
