Hi All, I've not posted in a while so I thought I'd start a wee thread on MPG.

I recently achieved this on a jaunt from Glasgow to Aviemore and returned through Fort William. It was all A and B road and I'm excited to see what I could get on a long motorway trip with the 156.

I've got the 156 1.9 JTDm with 70k on the clock...

Whats the best (picture provable) AVERAGE MPG you can get?

The dash computers talk rubbish.

The best my dash has ever reported to me was an average of 71.3 Mpg over 448.8 miles.

Utter nonsense and I know it! Worked out with volume of diesel on the fuel receipt that trip came out at 58.9 mpg.. Which I suspect was still comically high because the pump cut-off a little earlier than normal, hence the next tank of fuel came out with suspiciously poor for MPG.. Still managed 55 mpg averaged over those two tanks though, which I think is about right for the driving I was doing.

I always fill brim-to-brim, and have recorded my last 128 fuel-ups on Fuelly. Averaging 49.2 mpg over the last 61621 miles, but 52.0 mgp over the last 10 tanks... Have noticed the average starting to creep down again now that it's getting colder out mind!

I too record the mileage and always brim the tank. First sign of troubles the consumption always rises. I've never got better than 50mpg even on a long slow cruise. The shell superplus makes no odds either. Put some archol additive in once which seemed to make it move a bit quicker.

The best average I have seen is 28mpg driving across France to Brittany this summer. My normal average is between 22 & 25. Worth it for the noise and power of the V6 though......

Best I had was 51.9mpg (by brim to brim calculation), dashboard was showing 67.7mpg at that time.

EDIT: I should try and do it again, since it was prior EGR delete

I've been recording my MPG in my 1.8 for the last 6 years (never meant to do it that long but can't stop!) The official figures paw that on average I should get 32mpg and over each of the 6 years I have got 32 + or - 1 so I can't complain. The computer always reads about 8 more than it is.

Recently replaced the split top turbo hose on my 150K mile 147 JTDm, and that seems to have raised the indicated mpg from low 40s to high 40s.....should have done it a while ago......;) The 550 miles I did from filling the tank to just brimming it again gave a calculated figure of just under 42, compared to the 48.7 that the trip computer showed - but the fillups were done at different stations so know idea how the "cut-offs" compared - wouldn't make a huge difference I guess.

The infocentre is such a comedy piece of software, apparently I got 49.2 driving back from Newcastle yesterday (102 miles) but that dropped to 46.7 after driving the 3 miles to work and back today lol Yep 6 mile of driving wiped 2.5 of the average over 108 miles :blah:
