It also depends on your budget and how much you have to keep the car running. Petrol cars are cheaper to buy, but Diesels are a bit more economical. The V6 sounds and goes well, but doesn't handle as well as the smaller engined cars, and is a bit soft if you go for a car without a sportpack.
I personally would love a V6, but the amount of miles I drive means a TS is more sensible. Its still an adequate performer with 0-60 in just over 8 seconds, and 130mph + top speed. The 1.8 is also a good car, but has less power torque than the 2 litre, and does a similar MPG.
Just make sure you get a looked after one, especially with regards to topping up oil and cambelts and you will love it whichever model you buy.
You will never be cool driving a Vauxhall.
