Re: Winter Tyre / Wheel query
I drive regularly on snow in Austrian Alps in winter. I use 195/60 R15 but 185/65 R15 are OK as well. Both sizes can be fitted with snow chains. I had to use them only once as even the smallest mountain roads in Austria are very well maintained and I didn’t have any problems even though my car is lowered.
I use Michelin Pilot Alpin tires and they are not bad at all, though you can find some superior winter tires for better price. On my VW I have Dunlop Wintersport 3D and they feel better. I would have a look on GY Ultra grip 7 as well. Both are good on road and snow. If you expect driving mainly in snow, you can try Nokian tires as well.
