I was looking for your advise on oil for a Multi-jet. The missus has a '09 MiTo MJ 1.6 still under warranty and has done 37K since new.
Given that the spec is 5w30 ACEA C2 with a Fiat approval sped of 9.55535-S1 is there a better oil than the Fiat Selenia WE P.E. 5W30 ?
FL SELENIA - Fluids and Lubricants
Noticed that a ACEA C3 classification offers extra protection. Would it be worthwhile going for the likes of a
Shell Helix Ultra Extra 5w30 (C2, C3, 9.55535-S1) at £37 or
Fuchs Titan GT1 PRO C-2 5w30 (C2, 9.55535-S1) at £31 for 3 x 1L or
Mobile one 5w30 ESP (C2, C3, No Fiat approval) at £39.
I don't know how important it is to have
1. Fiat approval spec 9.55535-S1 or
2. a C3 classification for the extra wear protection - realise that this is important for a petrol engine
If one went for a 'cheap' £20 option of an ASDA synthetic 5w30 oil that only had a ACEA C3 spec (no C2) would this cause any problems ? - this is more for an older Fiat 500 1.3 MJ that is outside the warranty period. Manual does state that a C2 is a minimum standard required for the MJ but since a C3 is low ash that one could 'get away with it'.
Lastly, if I had an earlier Mito 1.3 6 speed with no PDF could one opt for a Castrol Magnatec 5w-30 A1. This is listed as suitable for diesel engines by Castrol if the exhaust PDF does not need a low ash content e.g. on a Toyota Avensis. This is more of a pre-caution if one was 'stuck' and you had to opt for an oil that was readily available in Halfords.
Many thanks in advance for your input.
