147 JTD no boost, loud hissing noise (guessing an air leak)

Happened a few days ago, I noticed power losses but it still had a bit of a kick when you put the foot down. Today, full throttle almost no acceleration (but it could all be in my head). Loud hissing noises around 2500 RPMs. I passed through a tunnel with full throttle and it sounded like a jet taking off. I am guessing it's one of the hoses. Could it be fixed at home, or do I need to take it to the mechanic? I'd rather do it myself if it's something easy, save money and gain experience.

EDIT: The hissing occurs in the left part of the engine. I hear it louder from the driver's seat.

If it's the big hoses then gaffer tape makes a fine repair. Fitting new hoses is pretty easy. Make sure you buy new clips as well. I think hoses can be had for less than 40 each or uprated silicon ones in nice colours for about 60. Definitely a satisfying diy job. Two spanners on the Haynes manual scale.
Find the split first though as your leak could be elsewhere.

Top hose tends to split (in my experience) close to its connection to the manifold, and can be temporarily fixed with duct tape, as above.....Bottom ones seem to be a little more prone to getting knocked off their connection completely.......

Should be an easy fix.......
