147 door fell off!

Anyone seen this before?

Dropping my son at school...pull up....go to open the drivers door...bye bye door! It was cartoon style funny.

Top hinge pin sheared.

Bottom hinge and check strap just about saved the door from hitting the floor and theres only minor paint damage to the door.

Got it all apart tonight, door off, and im really not sure what to do! I cant explain it in words, so see attached.

1st pic: car side of top hinge, the lower part
2nd and 3rd: bottom view of upper half of top hinge and top down view of it.
4th and 5th: the broken pin. I think this must be normally press fitted onto the door side hinge part. Leaving the shiny tapered bit to drop into the bottom half hinge (car side). You then pop a little screw in from the bottom to hold the hinge together. So i can see how there could be a part i could order. Or if there was, some special tool needed to press the part together onto the door half hinge.

Can anyone advise if ive got it right?

Fir now, bodged it back together with a sawn down bolt.

Yup, its not an uncommon fault. Replacement bits from wreckers.

I can just imagine your son screaming "HONEST, I DIDN'T DO IT! IT JUST FELL OFF HONEST!"

And for once, he was right!

Either that or tell him to back off on the "Wheaty Bites" for brekky , he's getting to strong!

The pin comes with the portion that's welded to the door: http://www.outletricambi.com/foto_articoli/1848269.jpg

Normally with this sort of failure I go to see a bloke who tinkers up serious bikes, he would turn a new item out of alloy steel.

If it happens the pin can be pressed out by devious means, you might salvage one from a driver's side rear door if the size matches. Least worn location, usually.

Yes pretty common. The lower hinge pin went on my GTA's driver side door. I ordered a new part from a dealer (with mine the broken element was bolted to the body). The GTA doors are heavy and awkward I can confirm!

I'm just scrapping a 147 - I can remove the top hinge for you if you can't get to a breakers to get one. It should be the bracket that's bolted to the shell......

Thanks everyone. There's an alfa breakers an hour down the road in Sherburn - gonna see if they've got a knackered door off which the half hinge can be cut out with a grinder. I'll then grind off the mushroomed top bit and then try to drill and tap the pin so that I can pop a washer and bolt in the top to get things mostly back as they were. Lots of grease will be added.

Unless....just a thought...anyone know if the bottom pin (the removable one) can be adapted easily to do the job of the top pin? That way I could buy one of those, or more easily obtained from scrapper, and do it that way.
