Connected an OBD2 reader to my car, dials started flashing

Connected an OBD2 ELM327 reader to my car , which i had done numerous times on my parents' car. Once I paired the device, the car computer started going crazy, all the dials and lights were flashing, dashboard was like a Christmas tree. I turned off the car, removed the adapter and moved on. What the ...?

Is this one of the Chinese blue elm's? I brought one and it didn't support the EODB2 that the alfa uses, sent the dials nuts!! Best advice is buy a decent adapter. Think mine is a maxiscan 937 (or something like that - has an on off switch, three lights for power, BT and odb connection). Works a treat every time

You got that right. That exact model. Thanks for the input, I'll invest in a quality one.
