Exhaust heat shields

Has anyone run without heat shields.

I ask as the middle section of mine is torn a little and wondered should i replace it or can i run without it . (the section for middle silencer but i have straight through pipe instead)

No, but I've seen someone use jam jar lids as big washers to secure the shields....

Had to make big washers for the lads Vectra and the wife's Seat due to heat shield rotting.

Plenty of wood stove flue sealant keeps them protected and quiet.

Like the jam jar lid idea

Well its raining so thought i would fix it Just need to find a couple more rivets and re-drill holes where needed and im using big repair zinc washers for mounting

Zinc plated washers against an aluminium heatshield with salt water spray off the roads? Luigi Galvani would find that idea electrifying.
