Alfa 156 fuel pump gasket

I tried changing my fuelpump to get the fuelgauge working again, but this gasket was somewhat loosely surronding the fuel pump when I took it up. Where does it go? Same diameter as the top but I can't get it to fit around the top.

Usually that style of seal is first placed inside the tank collar, you then slide the fuel pump/sender assembly through it and the pump assembly's flange rests upon the top edge of the seal. The "split" bottom edge is to better seal when under pressure.
