alfa 147 1.6 lusso

Can anyone help?, I have a fairly dated post about the cause of a stiff gearchange, this post describes in detail the removal and replacement of the selector bracket, and the person posting has confirmed that the stiffness in the gearchange is due to the mechanism on the bracket being worn, and replacement sorts this out, can anyone confirm/ deny this please, don't want to carry out the job until i'm certain this will solve the problem, thank you

As I've commented on your other post, if the stiffness is in the lateral plane - when moving the stick side to side - for example when trying to change down from 3rd to 2nd, then the top-hat bushes in the bracket on top of the box are very likely to be the issue.

Wouldn't you call each, a selector arm or selector lever or bellcrank?

The pressed metal item to which both cables are securely clipped, and which itself is bolted to the gearbox top, is surely a bracket.

Yeah, I guess, but the tophat bushes go into the bracket - which in some cases is a casting, and the bellcrank or whatever runs through them.........I can't really be bothered splitting hairs
