147 front boot not closing

Hi again,

Today i noticed that my front boot is not closed! It cant lock in place no matter my efforts. Also i noticed that the whole boot is not aligned straight. The mechanism on the car that should lock the boot seems to work fine.

Any help or trial& error ideas would be great!

Thanks

The bonnet is adjustable on its mounting hinges.
As for the lock itself, make sure the secondary catch (the bit hook that sticks up) is free to move and springs back on its own.

Hi and cheers for the answer

The hook seems to move just fine . Problem is, it does not seem to hook anywhere on the bonnet. The whole bonnet is loose no matter how i try to close it. There is no "click" sound.

Faulty catches are a periodic recall on 156s so maybe the same on 147s?

I'm assuming that the u-shaped hook on the bonnet itself is still there? You'd have to try hard to break it off, but it's a part of the centre grill (at least on the 156 it is).

Also, the bonnet shuts onto adjustable rubber stops at either side, just behind the lights. If they're wound right out, might that stop the latch from engaging properly?

Ok i found the problem. It was too obvious actually..the bonnet hinch is broken and was missing. I found it somewhere in the engine. Now my problem is : do i try to glue it on the bonnet or buy a new bonnet (does it come with a new hinch on it i wonder)

Any advice would be most welcome

"hinch" ???

Do you mean hinge or the loop the bonnet catch goes through?

That metal loop on the bonnet that the mechanism hook locks inside. Obviously the car had an accident in front and many bits were broken. My question is if i get a new bonnet will it come with the metal loop on?

Tomorrow i will try to glue it

Gluing sounds frightening...... A bonnet flip at speed isn't fun and will probably total the car.

As for the loop, looks like it just comes with the bonnet.
