gt 1.9jtd brake pedal hiss

Gentlemen !

I flushed my brake system today (and when bleeding(flushing) the system i was simply pumping the pedal almost all the way down). After that I discovered a new trick my car does - acoustic brake pedal.

When pressing the pedal down, or releasing it, there is a new noticeable air huff coming from the pedal area. What broke this time?

Heres a video of it in action

Do the brakes feel normal? That just sounds like typical servo noise to me.

Everything seems fine. The brakes are rather soft i think though. I test drove one alfa prior to this one, and it had really nice brakes - touch the pedal and its braking. So i thought that a brake fluid flush would help, but the brake feel didn't change, except for that mattress pumping sound appearing.

ABS kicks in if i stomp the pedal, and the pedal "ratchets" very quickly (much faster than an older toyota). Otherwise the car stops OK.

edit: to rephrase, the brakes now and before are 'meh', nothing to write home about. The car stops, but its definitely not impressive.

Fairly common sentiment I believe...

Braided lines, fresh fluid, and performance pads usually fix that!

Braided lines might help with the sponginess. I had them on a sierra and they made it better. Generally I have to agree the brakes are a disappointment but you do get used to the oldskool feel. It's only when you drive something else and nearly put your face through the windscreen that you're reminded how inadequate they feel.
