HID's Question

Reading the .gov MOT regulations all (i guess includes retro fit) HID's must have washers and auto leveling.
On another thread someone said retro HID's have no regulation in the uk so no need for washers or self leveling .

Anyone know which one it is ?

Thx

Do GTs as standard have auto levelling? I have fitted HIDs to mine, I have headlight washers but not auto levelling as far as I'm aware. Never had an issue come MOT time.

The key wording in the UK MOT regs is "may have" and "if fitted".
Self leveling and washers is not an MOT requirement for HID'd cars, but if washers and/or levelling are fitted they must work.

There are cars with OEM factory fitted HIDs which don't have washers or levelling and the UK MOT is worded to take that into account.

Washers that don't work is a failure.
Lack of washers is not a failure.
Same applies to self-levelling.

David beat me too it!!
Im toying with the idea of retro fitting HIDs into a set of lights as well. Dont fancy paying the £££'s for the factory fitted options. You planning anything different/special??

Except if you live in Northern Ireland,
where the wording by Northern Ireland’s Driver and Vehicle Agency (DVA).
states: “A car with HID lights MUST have headlight washers and self levelling...”

I know, which causes huge problems for the few cars that have OEM HIDs but no levelling or washers.

But he isn't in NI, so is fine.
