Thumbs Up New arrival almost here....

During the last week, my 156 V6 was eventually written off as a Total Loss by my insurers. This and my debate over 'market value' is documented in other posts.
I looked over another 156 this weekend and decided to take the plunge and get another with (when it arrives) the insurance payout.
It's the same colour (silver) as my old one, with the Veloce options and Sports Pack (skirts, 16" Alloys and lowered suspension). It's missing out on the 'big wing', but reaction from my friends about the look of the wing was mixed, edging towards urgh! So no real loss.
It does have auto A/C and a glass sunroof, and is a couple of letters newer, but only one calender year.

There are a couple of small bodywork issues on the lower flanks, just small dents/scrapes with no broken paint. The main problem is someone tried to screwdriver the driver's door lock and it's bu66ered. The locks still work from the remote and you can open the door with the push button. It does look a mess and needs fixing, is it a specialists/dealship job or can a locksmith or indy garage carry out the repair?
It's has history to 48,000 but has missed (or not been stamped up) for the 60 and 72 000. My last had the cambelts done on schedule, so I'm keen to get it done, any good garages in the Manchester/Stockport area I can trust this job to?
Hope to post some pics soon, have to collect (and pay for) it on my next day off.

Re: New arrival almost here....

Hi Milowokie, sorry to hear about your other 156 but glad you kept faith and are getting a new one. Did your insurers offer you a buy back option? What was the damage to your old Bella? As far as the lock goes I think you should be able to replace the barrel although I'm not 100% on this and there will always be issues with the locks not being suited. Although it wouldn't make much difference if you only use, as I do the remote locking. If it's just being fixed for the cosmetics then just replace the barrel and use they key fob

Owning an Alfa is not a matter of life or death...... It's much more important than that.

Re: New arrival almost here....

you can use any 156 door lock barrel and cut it to match your key. you simply insert your key then use a grinder (dremel) to cut the tumblers down flush. then you're ready to fit the modified barrel to your door.
