2.0TS into a 1.6TS 147.

Here's an interesting one, especially for someone who has completed a transplant of a 2.0 litre engine into a 1.6 litre Alfa 147 (manual).
So far I've done the transplant of the engine, which included the throttle body computer and ECU so I could get the VLS (variable length suction) flap of the inlet manifold to work.

Everything is working fine EXCEPT I get 'ASR failure' immediately after keying on. Multiecuscan reports C1881 CAN bus error/vehicle configuration error (or something like that) and won't clear. The ABS tab reports a road speed of 1.75km/hr when standing still.

So far I've tried PROXI reset, ECU reset (15 min idling), swapping body computer, driving around the block, battery disconnected overnight. I can't swap the ABS ECU as the connector is different and I'm hesitant to swap the whole loom out.

If I can't get this error to disappear by software I'll put the 1.6 ECU/throttle body back and live without the VLS. Anyone else got experience of this and a solution - like a visit to a dealer?

Yes, a 2.0 147 manual.

I have exacty same problem as you. Did you solve it somehow? With original 1.6TS everything works well. With 2.0TS ECU get that ASR issue with C1881 error.

The cause was the ABS module in the 1.6 car being different from what the 2.0 ECU was expecting. I wasn't able to achieve anything by software. I couldn't change the ABS module as the wiring loom and plug are different.
So I had two options:
1. Go back to the 1.6 ECU and lose VLS
2. Change wiring loom and ABS module.

I put this project aside as 3 more 147s and a Brera came into the workshop and a customer was gagging to have one of my other cars that was part finished... too many projects on the go at once! It peaked at 13 cars for a while.

Then I happened to find one of those 3 147s was a 2.0 car which some noddy had put a 1.6 engine in. The plan is now to swap the engines back into the correct cars.
