Also today i visited 3 different polishing garages. They all showed me the exit. Unfortunately they advised me to forget about polishing or restoring the color of the car. They alla said that the color is burned and only a total repaint would fit but its way too expensive for the car. I am sad..Maybe later i am considering a car wrapping (with 3M or other membrane)

Finally i went searching for tyre prices as mine are totally useless. In fact the previous owner had turned the tyres inside out so that i coundnt see the tyre date! Hahaha its insane.. Anyway prices for new tyres begin at 180 euros and reach 300. I am considering of getting used Alloy wheels with used tyres on them since my 147 wears iron wheels and i can find good alloy wheels with tyres at 200 euros. I am not sure though if it would be ok to go from 15" to 17" wheels .

Keys i visited an immobilizer technician and he told me he would open the circuit inside to check it but he also needs the car. Thats programmed for Thursday now.

Window switches i am almost sure you guys are spot on. I think it works but something inside the door or window mechanism needs fixing. Maybe i find some time on Thursday for that too.

As for the price. Its 1200 euros and yes it is considered a cheap buy here in Greece. All my friends ask themselves how i found that deal! I remind them how much i have to pay to rebuild it though..

With some rough calculations i might need another 1500 euros to bring this baby to life. Would you do it? Tell me your opinions!

Thanks for the support
Honestly, I wouldn't do it. Because you could probably get a very good one that needs minimal work for 2700. But if you want to fix it, then by all means, do it! It will bring you pride when it's finally finished. Also, don't see why you couldn't upgrade from 15" to 17". A lot of us here have 17" wheels. I use the 15" for winter and 17" for spring summer and fall. I'd say get a nice set of alloys (you can go 16s, but 17s look way better) with some decent tires. It's almost winter tho anyway so you'll be back to 15s in no time.

Coming costs

100 euros b.cleaning

1. The A/C is not working ( i drove with 36 Celsius out there!)
At this age there is probably a leak and it could get expensive to repair.

2. The gear clutch is heavy showing it needs renewal.
What is the latest with this. Often just bleeding the clutch can fix this.

3. The km menu is not working. No total km indication is showing either.
Note that the total distance travelled by the car is usually stored in both the engine ECU and an ECU on the display. If you change either component the display will show whichever of the two stored values is the highest.

4. Front driver window switch is not working.(Yes drove with no A/C or window!)
This is more likely to be the mechanism rusted and seized up in the door and nothing to do with the switch or electrical connections but check the electrics first.

5. The roof is hanging and needs renewal

6. One A/C switch is loose and cant change air vent direction

7. Color condition is bad but luckily i saw no rust.

8. central locking not working.
There is a wire under the dash that is an aerial to receive the signal these can become disconnected.

Finally most of your problems have lots of posts so please use the search function before asking for help. You usually find the answer already posted and faster than waiting for replies.

Hello my friend and thank you for the post. Actually i am not asking for help on anything. I just bought a used 147 and i want to list the problems i face with it.

The forum here is so helpful that you guys give me your good advice without even asking for it. You are all great.

Now the car is in a good condition mechanic wise and thats why i am repairing it gradually. Otherwise i would not even bother.

Its fun to have a "diary" here and i am sorry if i brought any flow problems to your forum.

I will keep the 15" iron wheels for now and i just change tyres.

Problem is:

185/65/15?

or

195/65/15?

I want the best fuel consumption and ofcourse road grip.

Which brand do you recommend guys for my Alfa ?

You can fit both according to this site and it even says you can fit 205/60s, but that's probably for some wider OEM 15 inch wheels. Wider is better, in my opinion, but 185/65s may be a lot easier to find, and therefore cheaper. As for the brand, I'm running Continentals and they're not that bad but nothing special. Goodyear makes some pretty good tires.

Go wider for more dry grip and better feel, or skinnier for better grip in the wet.

Whay about the suspension? Should i lower/increase the car hight for best performance?

Which brand again fit best my Alfa

Update!

Last Thursday i took my Afa back from the biological cleaning and wow! Now inside looks like just made from the factory! I am very please of the result. That cleaning cost 100 euros

As said above i was looking for tyres all week long. Actually i didnt want to buy used tyres (yes you can find cheap used tyres here dot 2013) but my ftiends insisted that i did. My friends think that i should keep the car a few months first to check engine behaviour and then invest into tyres or suspension. All new tyres here for 185/65/15 offset cost at least 50 euros each. Ofcourse known brands cost a lot more.

So i was troubling myself about the issue. Should i buy new tyres or just put on used ones and wait?

Today i accidentally passed a tyres pit stop near me and i dropped in to ask for prices of used tyres. The guy found only 2 tyres from dot 2012 that didnt look they would last another year. Price was 20 euros each. Problem was that i needed 4 tyres as all my old ones were totally dry and melt. So he proposed me putting new tyres on for 170 euros total price! Ofcourse i put them on! The brand is Kormoran and i think it was a good deal.
Now the car feels more steady. Crazy think was that the tyre guy checked my wheel system infront and told that nothing needs replacing. (Remember the guy from the Alfa Romeo Garage that said i need to change the whole system?). So i am confused..

Total repair cost so far:

130 euros for the roof
167 euros for a/c valves and clutch tromp
100 euros cleaning
170 euros tyres

Now my next change will be suspensions!

Never heard of that brand, to be honest. And as far as the suspension goes, I'm pretty sure the guy from alfa would know more than a random guy that changes tyres. If your car is creaking over bumps, etc, you probably need to rebuild some of it. As for lowering the car, I'd say lower it if your roads aren't horrible. Eibach is good, I think.

Horrible roads no. But theupy can be really bad after a downpour.

As for suspension i will change them first as it seems they were never replaced. Then i will check again for the wheel base system with a 3rd mechanic and take it from there.

I guess when i finish with the wheels i will take a break for winter to check on the car behaviour. If all is well i will invest more time and money after March 2017. Mostly on the looks of the car (colour , bumps ,lights etc. )

Ofcourse before that i will certainly fix the window switch problem.

Lets see how it goes.. i hope i will win having a good car after all this.

Well, even in bad roads, if you drive slowly and carefully there shouldn't be too many problems. Disregard everyone honking behind you and giving you a hard time, you're trying to preserve your car and save yourself the money from rebuilding the suspension etc. I ripped my bumper once because someone was impatient, don't let that happen. Mine is higher in the front now because I mistakenly bought shock absorbers with standard springs, but some people on the forum say I can just put old springs on as they're probably okay. I'm not sure of what brand they are since I didn't really look and they're in my vacation home relatively far from here, but I'll be changing the shocks soon, so I will tell you. They're probably eibachs tho.

Kormoran is a 3rd category company of Michelin . They are made in Poland. (2nd is BF Goodrich). The tyres guy told me to go for the 185/65/15 tyre that has the same grip as Michelin. He also told me that the 195/60/15 Kormoran tyre had the same price but he didnt recommend them.

Tomorrow i will ask for suspension prices and take it from there. I have seen that Sachs suspension are good and not very expensive. Also i will visit the Alfa Garage Service to check the a/c .

Finally i have to check if the immobilizer specialist has fixed my key or not.

Lets see how it goes

Update:

Key is not fixed yet. The immobilizer guy told me he will replace the buttons as it seems that the frequency sent is not correct. Thats delayed for Friday now..

Suspension i have been given 3 choices that fit exactly for my Alfa 147 (actually they built them specifically for Alfa 147!). All cost from 280-330 euros without springs (if needed i will have to pay more for springs). Kayaba seems to be the best choice for 300 euros but i want to do some more search here.

A/c was not checked also as they Alfa garage service was full and i have to go again tomorrow.

Door windows switch also was not fixed but the door guy told me there is a chance the switch works fine and that the window mechanism needs fixing. But that needs time and it was delayed also for tomorrow morning.

I insist on bringing my Alfa back to pristine condition and i hope i will win a good overall car at the end. All depends on how the engine will hold. Lets see..

Update!

Windows switch fixed!

Actually the switch was working correctly. The problem was in the window mechanism. A window plastic safety was broken and the window was stuck up. The guy i went to fix it has done miracles really. Took a plastic safety from a used Punto window mechanism and..vuala! Worked like a charm.
I payed him 50 euros for his good work (remember he saved me a lot more cause the switch is very expensive!) and he also fixed the gas tap (it was loosen) AND he replaced my door speaker which was burned!( Ofcourse the other speaker is burned too but i will fix it later).

I was so happy that i ordered the Kayaba suspension for tomorrow!

As i said the suspension replacement will cost me another 300 euros and i will stop after that for a while as i am near 800 euros spent already .

I hope suspensions will bring the steady Alfa road grip so i am very anxious to see how it will behave.

Until tomorrow!
