removing centre section of exhaust.

One of the many jobs to do on my 147 is fix the exhaust, at the moment the rear silencer is knackered ( Where the pipe from the centre section go into the tail pipe is has come away and is just rattling around in there ). I am looking at selling a kidney and buying a new rear silencer, would removing the centre section/silencer give any performance gain or would it just make it louder?

Don't Bother, the centre section is the resonator not a silencer, it controls the exhaust gas pulses and removing it will probably make the car run rough as hell.
