Beeps Gone

I fixed the annoying beeps on locking or unlocking the car.

Following a thread on changing the code for the immob, I used the ignition and bonnet switch hack to select different countries in order to turn off the beeps - strangely enough only the UK one (5) has silenced the beeper, the others still beeped but the sirens were different. Now if only you could select a unique siren from another setting.....lol

Is it me or does the UK siren setting seem quieter when it activates to the other ones???

Anyway, silent locking achieved!

Re: Beeps Gone

This slightly different explanation worked perfectly.

Bonnet open.
Ignition to Mar (on), then stop.
Push the bonnet switch 7 times within 10 seconds (the first push must be made within 15 seconds of
the ignition being turned off). (little micro switch mounted vertically in the bonnet catch recess on the left)

While the alarm is beeping, push and hold the switch until one long beep is heard.
Release the switch and push again the number of times corresponding to the country code you wish to
set it to. (5 for UK)
Wait for a long confirmation beep to indicate that it is out of program mode. (my 53 156 gives a short blast of the selected siren sound instead)

Close bonnet, and lock the doors - silently - woo hoo.

The codes for the 145 / 156 are as follows...
Italy - 1
Germany - 2
France - 3
Switzerland - 4
UK - 5
Holland - 6
USA - 7
EEC - 8
Others - 9/10

Re: Beeps Gone

different siren sound, and beeps when locking, probably siren level too, depending on immobiliser laws in each country. Maybe other differences...

Re: Beeps Gone

i wouldnt want it to be silent, the multiple beeps when you unlock let you know when its safe to relock without disarming the alarm

Re: Beeps Gone

it also flashes the indicators for each beep tho, you only have to wait till they flash twice.

At least in a lonely dark car park it doesnt shout "IM LOCKING MY CAR NOW AND WALKING AWAY WITH THE KEYS ON FOOT"

LOL

Re: Beeps Gone

Tried this on a 147 to silence the alarm beeping, didn't work.

Anyone any ideas how to stop the alarm beeping on arming/disarming please?

Doesn't bother, or interest me at all. If it gets nicked, just buy another one Time for a change anyway.:

Re: Beeps Gone

It's preferable to cars in the states which toot their horn when you lock/unlock.

Easy to make someone jump if they're standing near your car and you unexpectedly lock/unlock it

Not meaning to be thick but I can't find the micro switch at all.

Is this in the bonnet, in the recess that holds the catch where you release the bonnet or by the bonnet release handle in the car?

I've just got a lovely 98 156 and it gives 10 beeps on unlocking when using the remote.

i've also got a lovely 98 156 that gives 10 beeps when unlocking using the remote.

i got a bit paranoid when people started saying that 10beeps was a sign of multiple (4+) faults with the alarm, but i have since done some research and tests and found that it is normal to have the 10 beeps and i definately do not have a fault on the alarm. if your red LED on the dashboard doesnt flash when the beeps are occuring then you do not have a problem.

Re: Beeps Gone

Thanks to evilscotsman,

I googled to find this thread and joined the forum as result.

Finding the microswitch was quite difficult, guess that's why it's called micro, anyhow BEEP BEEEEEEP has now gone silent ....

Re: Beeps Gone

Well, i tried the above procedure and it seemed to work fine with country code 5 for UK to silence the arm and disarm beep but the problem i have is that the full alarm sounds after 5s of setting the alarm.

I tried all country codes and the only one which didnt sound the alarm after setting was country code 2 Germany. All others sounded the alarm.

Does that mean i have a fault?

Andy

Re: Beeps Gone

Mine is thankfully silent on arming and disarming but I did notice that a same year 147 that I had from the dealer as a courtesy car did have a loud arm/disarm sound which was a danger to nearby shipping in my opinion.

Go figure.......

Anyway....I always thought that the alarms were fitted at the docks when they come off the boat - so you get fitted whatever they have to hand at the time.
