The quest for a reasonably priced front pipe continues.. Your thoughts on this please

Hello

Where did people get their front pipes from.. And how much did you pay ?

I have found a company called Autobits that are selling a Stainless Steel one... for £70 see link.. They seem to supply them for all kinda cars..

http://www.autobits.co.uk/store/view...p?product=1579

anyone got any thoughts.. has anyone heard of these people or used them ?

Cheers

Drew

Drew,

Got mine from buypartsby but check whether you have a CF2 or CF3 engine.

CF2 has one cat under the car just after the front pipe flexi. CF3 cars have THREE cats, two in the front pipes and these aren't cheap ...

The one in the picture on that Autobits site is for a CF2.

Would a CF2 manifold fit in place of a CF3 one?

I got my 164 pipes from Buypartsby. Looking at the autobits store, there's only a couple of quid difference between them and the pictures look identical.

Unlikely, the CF3 has additional lambda sensors ...

Try looking at onlineautomotive.co.uk for exhaust parts for your alfa. Lots of other bits too. I'm about to order a full system for my 156 2.0TS from them for £291, including cat and lambda sensor.
Does anyone know what gaskets I'll need?

Seems a reasonable price, for a complex branched shape?: Do the welds fracture, or rather the areas around the welds? Surely not corrosion of the metal itself, in that location?

Usually just the flexi-section that fails.

Thanks David: Still got a few lengths, of varying diameter, collecting cobwebs in the corner of the garage, from HPE Etc. days long past.:

Re: The quest for a reasonably priced front pipe continues.. Your thoughts on this pl

As David C said - it was the flexi that went.. and I think thats the common weak spot...

I actually got the problem sorted yesterday with minimum hassle... and for

£60 !!!

And.. I didn't have to break the joints or cut my hands...

I went to a place near me that builds stainless exhausts for cars, and they cut out th rotten flexi, and fabricated a new pipe that fitted over the old bit they left, attached a new flexi, and welded the whole thing up for hardly anything.. and it took them about 25 mins from me driving in to me paying the money and driving out...

problem solved.. and for me.. the best solution.. Plus - they even tempted me to replace the exhaust with one from them when the rest goes, and they will give me a discount !

For once.. somehting on my Alfa went easily !!!
