That does sounds a bit like contaminated fuel (ooh - hot topic!) but I woudl suspect poor sparking and incomplete combustion as being more likely. I guess you had a spark breakdown for a short moment.
Yes, I suppose you'd be right, perhaps just one cylinder went down for ten seconds or so. There was definitely an noticeable increase in the amount of steam out the back though!
Before I left for work this morning I checked under the bonnet for Leprechauns in Tesco's uniform. There weren't any there though, I guess they had gone to the Plastic Surgeon across the road for their silicone injections.

having reported earlier in this thread that my exhaust was quite steamy at all times, not excessive but noticably more than most cars.
Well i had to have a new oxygen sensor fitted (nothing todo with recent fuel problem) and the steamy smoke has gone, also it seems to have given performance a little boost.
Hey
I bought mine form Camberley Auto Factors for about £48 and fitted it myself. Surprisingly easy to fit to my 146 twin spark too! They are available on Ebay and the like but I would rather have a good aftermarket part than an 'unknown origin' Ebay special!

got mine from Alternative Autos (link on the 156.net site) £65 including vat and delivery. It was only replaced because i had a new front pipe fitted and removal and refitting must have finally killed it, and i just happened to notice the exhaust output was small from a cold early morning start and nothing to be seen during the day, so i`m very happy with the accidental curing of this.
I am hoping that my question is somehow related to the Steamy subject. I cannot find a thread about excessive CO2. I recently had my NCT (Irish version of MOT done and the car failed due to excessive CO2. Any ideas of how to adjust the fuel mixture (I guess) to reduce the CO2 level.
Hi. Yes excessive CO2. They test the exhaust emission at low idle - 790 rpm and my 156 passed this test. They also do a high idle - 2720 rpm test. The manufacturer says that the CO2 level should be 0.3% volume. My car produced 0.37% volume. IS this something which can be tuned using the OBD II interface or perhaps there is another cause: MAF ? or exhaust sensor ...
