Re: 156 Brake pipes (a "heads up" warning...)

I was just wondering if this problem is specific to a model year in particular? Because I have a 2005 156 Ti, and when I read this post on the morning I went to my local Alfa Dealer and they couldn't find any problem related to this issue...

As yours is only 3-years old it is probably too early for the problem to appear.

No surprise that a main dealer hasn't seen it before though...!

Re: 156 Brake pipes (a "heads up" warning...)

I just failed my MOT on a rear off-side fixed brake pipe, just where it goes into the piece that attaches it to the flexi. This is on a 10year old 156.

Is that a visible, easy to spot location?

Yes.. Funnily enough I changed the brake pads on the back about two/three months ago and never noticed it. TBH the corrosion was very light, I reckon if I'd have rubbed most of it off and put a bit of grease over the top it'd have passed.

Madness Re: 156 Brake pipes (a "heads up" warning...)

Having read this I asked the garage to check mine at the service three weeks ago. It let go just as I approached a roundabout a week later. Survived as some 25% of braking was left due to the split system. Motto: Don't trust a garage to check for you!

Cheers , just renewed my brake pipe burst at the flexi hose and when i removed it discovered a burst at pipe clip, nightmare job, had to do a retro on the new pipe line.

Re: 156 Brake pipes (a "heads up" warning...)

I gather this place is virtually impossible to see as its tucked up
behind the inner wing.
I haven't taken the wheels off yet to have a check, but is there
likely to be enough space to be able to give it a good drenching in
a jet of waxoil ?

To be honest I would not consider this a fix unless the car was quite young. Mine was only 5 years old with 50K on the clock.

Re: 156 Brake pipes (a "heads up" warning...)

You would have to coat it in Waxoil when it was new for it to have any preventative effect.
