GT Mudflaps
Does anyone know if I can get a nice set of mudflaps for my GT?
I don't mean the Halfords agricultural rubbery type, but something a bit more stylish, not too long, preferably with an AR or GT badge on it. A friend of mine just phoned me to say the AR dealer has offered some plain black ones, but I feel there should be better ones out there somewhere. Any ideas?

Re: GT Mudflaps
noooooooooo, dont do it Martin
It's worth cleaning the car a little more just to save fitting mud flaps to it!

Re: GT Mudflaps
Every second-hand car I've ever bought that had mudflaps on, they were the first thing to go. They scream "old man with a bad back who doesn't like cleaning the car" so for the love of God don't buy them!

Re: GT Mudflaps
I just knew I would get people in a 'flap' over this subject.
You are both right of course, it would spoil the look of the car, but I was just trying to protect it from flying stones, tar, etc.
Oh well, back to the drawing board.

Re: GT Mudflaps
I don't have them on mine Martin but the Gt shape unfortunately lends itself to "peppering" especially around the rear wheel arch area.
The new Brera has clear vinyl patches on these areas and I've improvised by cadging some of the same stuff for the GT from my local sign writing firm (a tenner for a big 2x1 metre strip). Simply make yourself a cardboard template and cut out patches to suit the car. Once they're on you hardly notice they're there.

Re: GT Mudflaps
Thanks again Will, I have a mate who owns a Brera so I will have a good look at the rear wheel arch/valance areas and see what they have done.

Re: GT Mudflaps
Sorted Martin - phewww
Regarding the clear vinyl strips - I'm annoyed that AR scrimped on this for the GT. It should be fitted to it, enough said.
Unfortunately I am too late, I have been peppered (well I've got 2 tiny tiny marks) from sh!t arising off our dirty roads - to make things worse it happened within 3 weeks of ownership and there have been none since, well that I've noticed
Anyway, good choice Martin - nice suggestion Will

Re: GT Mudflaps
I noticed these on a car I owned once, but can't remember which one....darn. Still I can imagine they look a whole load better than mudflaps. Nice one, Will

Re: GT Mudflaps
My pleasure.
I actually had them on my old V70 volvo and was very impressed. The slight hitch is that the edge collects polish residue and you have to put in that little bit extra effort to clear it or you notice the white mark.
Other than that, it works a treat.
BTW, the secret of applying it is to do it wet with a tiny, tiny bit of washing up liquid in the basin. this allows you to slide it and get the placing just right. You then smooth it down firmly with an old credit card and believe it or not it completely removes the water and sticks down perfectly!

Nice one Will - you're a real handyman
Looks like it's a no-go for the mudflaps.

Re: GT Mudflaps
I think you're smart not to go for the flaps, Martin. Apart from the aesthetics, the car sits pretty low as it is and the addition of flaps would just be asking for "tear-offs".

Re: GT Mudflaps
Here's pics of the Alfa mudflaps on my GT when I had it. I got them for the same reasons you mentioned ie. to prevent shot blasting the paintwork. They looked ok on the car IMO but I know there are plenty on here who disagree. I personally hate the protective strips on the 159/Brera and they show up badly when the car is dirty. Still, the world would be a boring place if everyone had the same tastes.

Re: GT Mudflaps
That's really useful Big Jon, thanks for the pics, and as you say it's down to taste. My neighbour has an Evo with really small flaps which are only about half the length of yours, just enough to do the job, and they look ok because they are the same colour as the car - but when you look around out there on the roads, very, very few cars have them fitted except 4x4's.

Re: GT Mudflaps
Hi, I have the dealer fit flaps and IMO think they're ok. If you want to go that way I doubt that you'll get anything else as they are moulded with recesses to fit the curvature of the bodywork. I have the accessories book somewhere if you need a part number. I also have sticky plastic on my 944 and if you're looking for that, it is made by 3M. There are specialists also who exclusively fit this stuff.

Re: GT Mudflaps
Yip, same as Andrew. I had the 3m stuff on my Lotus (rip ) and found it v.good.
Also useful for Spider owners to protect the interface between hood and rear panel it sits upon. Same technique as mentioned before, card template and apply wet - not too difficult.
Mudflaps on an Alfa , in this case I think the designers got it right. Now on a Volvo towing a caravan, a different case indeed

Re: GT Mudflaps
Hi, to check out I would be intrested if you have the part numbers for the GT mudflaps, as the ones in the book I saw did not look moulded or curved to fit. The ones fitted to our 156 look fine to me small guards not large.
