Not Happy Re: Selespeed info

Thanks for that info, very interesting. We have a selespeed and have had a fair few problems with the gearbox, many a time on a long motorway journey the gear indicator on the dash would start flashing N and the car would go out of gear. Great fun at 70mph on the M6!!!

Re: Selespeed info

Does anybody know what the clutch position is in mm for the GTA selespeed. I had the Actia computer connected with my mechanic and the reading was 13.8mm, which i think is low, cos i have been told that on the 2.0TS the reading when working well should be 29mm. Any ideas out there, would be greatly appreciated.

Also is is possible to adjust this manually like in the TS gearbox with the bolt just to the side of the gearbox at the top.. dunno what its called, sits just below the battery in our seles here in the Middle East..(Left Hookers as you guys call them)

Thanks

Hi, I have a problem in my transmision mabye somebody can help me. My gearbox doesn`t change, it just staid in (N). I don`t know why. I passed the scan and the only error that comes out is a 001transmision electronic fail codes.

Re: Selespeed info

Hi All,
just bought my 147. Got up this morning started the engine (selespeed system failure) came up, no gear selection. Can it really just be down to the battery?

Cheers

Turns out the problem is due to a worn clutch and clutch release bearings. We'll have it sorted soon.

Re: Selespeed info

A friend need a engine for his 156 2.0ts so he got a 156 selespeed with a u/s gearbox. We used engine from the selespeed for his car. The gearbox was ok the clutch release bearing had broken up. I did ok i had all the selespeed bits. I got my 156 selespeed in march with gear problems 'n' and gearbox light flashing. I was busy with work & motorbikes so didn't look at my car. It was selespeed pump so cheap fix with free parts!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Selespeed info

hey guys...new onto here..and already loving the alfa appreciation ;-)..i saw the website that was posted on here that helps with troubleshooting and what not...i thikn it's quite awesome...however/unfortunately i'm not that well equipped with understand what it says *blushes*...i've owned a 156 selespeed for the last 7 months and it has become my absolute pride and joy...however 2 days ago, i was installing a car audio system, and had to get some wiring from the battery to the inside of the car..whilst doing this, i used the same hole in the firewall that uses the conneciton between the selespeed ecu and the selespeed itself..i undid the selespeed ecu, but did not fiddle wiht it directly..about an hour later i turned the car on..it stayed on for 2 maybe 3 seconds and jumped into 4th gear where it remained until now..unfortunately it won't let me put it back into neutral and the selespeed light keeps flashing..i don't think i did any damage to the ecu, as the only problem was the fact that i unscrewed the casing around it..soo i ask, can any1 help me out and tell me how i can get it into neutral atleast?..it's never had a problem before...unfortunately this is a first :-(...thanks all

Once the mechanique I go with told me that that is a usual problem in the selespeed. Maybe yo have to change the clutch or something related with. Because when the clutch heats up it usually changes into N with out warning light. so maybe that can be the problem.

Re: Selespeed info

Samy-b
Go back to the Selespeed ECU and release and reconnect both the connectors.

They release by pulling a plunger out of one end.

Do the same to the large connector leading to the Selespeed actuator under the MAF sensor next to the battery.

If you can, get some contact cleaner and treat the connectors before reconnecting.

Re: Selespeed info

The MAF sensor is the sensor in the intake trunking.
Directly below that is the big connector to the Selespeed Actuator.

Clutch kit replaced but, the car doesnt turn(start). The selespeed oil doesnt go down.It remains in the resevior. The pump runs. The bushes have been replaced.I read about Oil pressure check."Check that the bleeder screw (under the battery rack) is tightened to a torque of 0.35 daNm + 0.05 daNm, otherwise, even if the pump is running, the oil pressure will never reach the required value."

Could this be the fault?I need information urgently.I have just sold my other car therefore need transport.I get selespeed systems error. The actuator/pump was bled (using the bleeder screw).

I was able to start the car before, replacing the clutch it couldnt engage gears.Apparently if you remove the gearbox with the actuator still attached. You do not need to recalibrate.Logic tells me that the oil is not reaching the actuator

Re: Selespeed info

Does the pump seam to run longer than it should?
If so it could be the pressure accumulator on the actuator.
(a large ball shaped thing that holds pressure even when the pump isn't running.)

Re: Selespeed info

Havent checked but it sounds different from before the brushes were replaced. How can that be sorted out?I have already replaced the actuator a couple of years ago and havent had a problem since replacing it.
