Strange suspension noises, Help!!!

Well its time for the cold weather again, and my 156 really does not like the cold!

Last winter i had a really wierd squeeking noise (like an old bed, getting some hammer!!) from both sides of the front suspension while travelling over bumpy stuff, so i took it to my Alfa specialist for a check over, only to be told all was ok, all summer it has been fine, and now, with the weather turning, the noise is back!, worse than last time as well.
When bouncing on the car (from the outside) i can`t hear a thing, but driving, it sounds like an old bed again!!
No clunking, or knocking, just this horrible squeeking.
Please can anyone help,as its driving me nuts!

Thanks in advance!

Re: Strange suspension noises, Help!!!

Sounds like top suspension arms, easiest way to check is good dose of wd40 on the rubber bushes and if the squeak goes you found it. Have a look at the thread below.

Re: Strange suspension noises, Help!!!

You may as well replace both upper wishbones, if one has failed the other will be close to failing too.

Right!, are they expensive, and is it an easy(ish) job.

Also, if i replace both the top and bottom arms, will i have to get the tracking/camber re-set or will it be ok.

Oh and one last thing-sorry!

How big of a job is it to fit some lowering springs?, cos i might do it all at the same time

Cheers guys

I tried squirting in WD40 and it cured it. For about 10 miles or so..

I have done the same today, and silent for now, but not hopeful!,

Phoned my Local Alfa specialist today for a quote, and thought i would do both upper and lower arms, but at £150 each plus vat i wont bother, seeing as though i aint got a spare £750 laying around (PHEW!!!)
Did`nt expect that much!, is this price normal, or are they taking the P***?

Re: Strange suspension noises, Help!!!

They are taking the ****. The arms are £32.50 + Vat per side from shop4parts or £25+ VAT from Alfashop. It is quite an easy job apparently. If you know what to do.
