147 hub

Can anyone expplain exactly how a rear hub works?

My specialist has advisedme that the new bush fitted a couple of weeks ago has now come loose, although he says he has done something to stop it coming loose again.

Any information on this would be very welcome.

finally..... the other hub's wheel bearing has gone (that dreaded noise) - is is very likely that the excess play from the knackered hub bush fitting will have caused the bearing to fail? I want to know if this is likely before I go to collect the car and get any bill he has for me.

There is a window of only 3 weeks between the work being carried out and the bearing failing - it also coincidentally failed the day the hub bush was replaced on the wheel with the knackered bearing.

In other words, can I expect to pay for the bearing, or should that be gratis given that it appears (to me) that the ill fitting hub bush has caused the bearing to fail due to the play?

Re: 147 hub

Is there anyone who knows how the stub axle bush fits into the hub, and how this can fall out of position?

Re: 147 hub

this is a common problem on 147/156 alfas. The rubber part of the bush is inserted into a soft metal tube. The rubber sticks out about 5mm on either side. it comes loose from the metal. Get the poly bushes from powerflex. these will last the life of the car.
