Selespeed No Power Problem

If have an Alfa 156 Selespeed (2000) that sometimes when I stop at traffic lights etc will not move away again!
I floor the throttle and the car just creeps forward in first gear with and indicator that looks like key appears.
The only way that I can clear the problem is to switch off completely and restart the engine, everything then returns to normal.
I have taken it to my local Alfa dealer they tested it on the computers and found no trace of a fault, they advised a new battery at £85 but it has not cured the problem if anything its getting worse.

Has anybody had the same problems? Or can anyone recommend a garage in the London area that really knows what their talking about??

is it the engine that won't rev or likea gearbox problem??? the key light is the immobilser light so dont understand that if the engine is running

Thats what I can't work out the car is still ticking over and on comes the key light and also a small light by the 8 on the rev counter that looks like a spark plug. The cars in first gear ready to go but there is no power from the engine no matter how much throttle you give it. It just creeps forward at full throttle.

That is the engine management warning light.

Something is up with the engine management, possibly unrelated to the Selespeed.
