1 month of a new GT and..

Hi,
had my new JTD just over a month and have a few problems:

1.Clutch linkage broken - temporarily repaired at roadside until dealer can look at it next week.

2.Front side light failure.

3.Water leaking into the boot inside the small compartment on the right hand side.

Has anyone else experienced any of these issues and if so have they been after just one month of ownership and 1500 miles?

Car looks and drives great, it just doesn't seem to be put together very well.

Three and a half months and almost 5000 miles and nothing much to report. Slight mark on bumper repaired under warranty and a couple of rattles which aren't too annoying, but no mechanical problems as yet.

Re: 1 month of a new GT and..

Just squeaks and rattles, all from the dash - yet to be taken to a dealer.
The reverse sensors & light stopped working, this was fixed in one trip to a dealer and was just a bad connection to the reverse light switch.

My driver side door lets in a small amount of water but only in the heaviest of really heavy rain, and it never spills over onto the carpet, just sits in the door opening. I'll get that looked at soon too.

All small things and the car's a July 2004 with nearly 18,000 miles on the clock.

Has anyone applied to the Evo "Fast Fleet" for a GT... I'm sure that AR would like it public...

Ditto. In fact you should see the look on my doubting pals face when I tell them the car isn't living up to it's reputation - It IS reliable and it IS robust! But I'm saying no more - summit might fall off shortly!

Re: 1 month of a new GT and..

sorry to hear that louis

ive not had your problems, just a few small ones of my own - wrong wheels when delivered, wrong spare kit, warped spare cover

is going in tomorrow for another brake check - that is the main 'big' issue for me - my brakes are consistent enough - might be the servo? we shall see.....hopefully

but i still think it is great - yes it isnt built as well as some cars....but then bits fell off/didnt work on my audi, and that was crap to drive

You're dead right - all cars have problems but not many look as good as the GT!

Re: 1 month of a new GT and..

Hi Louis9 My GT is also leaking in the boot. It seems to be coming through storage compartment on the drivers side. Two trips to the dealer so far and no joy. I am going into beat them tomorrow as I had to remove the spare wheel and bail it out with a jug.

Have you found out what is causing your problem?

The reputation of Alfa's has not been updated in most peoples eyes, my 146 has not seen a garage (apart from MOT) since the yday Idrove it off the forecourt, and since then it's towed more of my mates cars to the scrappy than I've seen broken down Bellas by the side of the road. Mind you it's normally because they cant get off the drive to break down on the road .

Re: 1 month of a new GT and..

To be fair to Tony Purslow in Basingstoke they have never tried to fob me off. Car is booked in next week to be looked at again. All seals on the boot are being changed. The car is being picked up from my house when I am on holiday. Finger crossed no more leaks.

Re: 1 month of a new GT and..

Mine had a leak into the boot area when new, it was dripping off of the storage box on the O/S, I traced it to a small hole (and i mean small) in the sealant under the roof gutter inserts. I carefully lifted the insert out, its only a push fit with a small sticky pad at the end, be careful not to bend it too far as although the paint is really flexible it must have a limit, I could then see a tiny hole in the mastic where the roof joins the "D" pillar. I had first stripped the interior trim but couldn't find it. I have no faith in the dealers and as it's my trade I was quite happy to sort it myself and time wise it was probably quicker.
In 37000 miles (13 months) I have had a faulty clutch replaced, after two weeks, and just the water leak, a seat creak and a rattle, only the clutch done by a dealer and they badly damaged the car.
So really happy with the GT, service it myself (use a friends diagnostic reader) it has no rattles or leaks and at this point I can't find anything i would like to replace it with.

Re: 1 month of a new GT and..

That would make sense being near the gutters. This weekend there was so much water in the spare tyre well I had to bail it out with a jug! I will tell them this as I want my car back fixed properly this time.

Re: 1 month of a new GT and..

Just bought one 2007 with 8000 km.

1. Squeeks in the front suspension
2. "Motor control system failure"-light lit when turning key. Stops after 20 sek
3. Some weird "iiiiii"-sound when turning, for instance, in a roundabout. Coming from both sides (right when turning left and the other way around), from rear somewhere.

Going to garage with warranty-claim next week

Got my GT back from the dealer tonight having been in there since Thursday. A seam in the boot had not been finished properly and required filling plus painting! No complaints of service from Tony Purslow

Re: 1 month of a new GT and..

Had mine for nearly four months and have had no trips to the service dealer for 3 weeks now. However, when I first got it, I had the drivers door panel replaced (dealers recommendation) because of a slight fault on the leather trim coming away from the plastic window control panel; strangely had a rear parking sensor pop itself back into the boot (thought one of my kids had pushed it in with their fingers); & one of the pipes on my ac unit had come into contact with the timing belt somehow and got bent out of shape meaning that the gas escaped where the coupling slightly opened. But I don't think that this means the car should have a bad reputation, as I said, everything is good and even Arnold Clark in Springburn have been great for their first class service. Teething problems happen on all modern machines.

The parking sensor problem is well documented. Glad your car is now good

Re: 1 month of a new GT and..

Had mine for 2 months. Bought it with 1 year and 750 km. No problems noticed when test drivning it.

Now:
1. MCSF every now and then
2. Wind noise from driver seat window.
3. Strange "weeeee-o-weeeee"-sound from back wheels when turning.
4. Rattle from between front seats. "Lose stick shift"?
5. Some lose parts in drivers comparment.

Not very content with build quality. Hope will be fixed under warranty.
