Wow... very technical but I have no doubt it will work Thanks for sharing your experience.

Any chance of a temporary loan? I live near the equator about 8 time zones away.

Thumbs Up Re: "Ker-Tong" sound - 156 TS

I had this problem with my car-156 2.0ts, 2001. Turned out it was a broken suspension bush on the drivers side. Dealer replaced it, and suspension arms under warranty, but it took me ages to convince them that the noise existed. Still makes the noise very occasionally, but much better than before.

Re: "Ker-Tong" sound - 156 TS

well, if its of interest to anyone, i finally figured out the source of the "ker tong" sound on my 156.

i have the OMP lower tie bar installed and turns out that the exhaust pipe was knocking against it cos the clearance wasn't enuff. added a couple washers and now no more sound!

im a happy camper!

Glad to hear you found out what it was - how did you find out what it was?

Re: "Ker-Tong" sound - 156 TS

i was testing different exhaust pipe diameters and noticed that the sound got worse after the mechanic installed the new pipe. went under the car again and noticed scuff marks on the exhaust pipe near the lower tie bar. that was a pretty good indicator. so i added a couple more washers for more clearance and it's all good now.

Re: "Ker-Tong" sound - 156 TS

Sounds like we have a number of different bongs, kertongs and Gods of varying religions offering a righteous schlup unto our cherished cars.

Perhaps if we were to stop idolising our cars and leave our neighbours oxen alone (perhaps accompanied by a bit of ritual goat sacrifice for good measure) we could assuage the angry gods and have a bit of peace and quiet?

Oh hang on, just re-read that. No good I'm afraid as I'll never stop worshipping at the temple of Alfa.

I've had no repeats since October. Mine did first occur shortly after fitting the strutbrace, but as it has only happened half a dozen times in a year I'm at a bit of a loss still.

this sounds very serious if it is what is causing the sound. It happened again to me yesterday on my street doing less than 20 MPH.

I do not have a strutbrace or any other suspension mods.

Re: "Ker-Tong" sound - 156 TS

I still think it's something simple like a Spring sticking momenterily then releasing. Most ocurances I have had have been low speed, small bumps.
I think it unlikely anything is broken, if you are worried ED77, take it in and get them to give it good check over.

I tend to agree, the sound is like a spring releasing rather than a catastrophic break. I have not been overly concerned as it does not happen regularly. It is more puzzling really.
