Re: 156 recall

Well known issue with the slight possiblity of the bonnet flying open if not closed properly. I think the recall is to just lubricate the mechanism...hopefully someone else can confirm.

Re: 156 recall

yep, it is just to clean & lube the lock and to educate the owner on how to correctly close the bonnet, no parts are changed.

Re: 156 recall

Yep this has been mentioned before and the correct closure method being dropping the hood from a foot and little above I think . I still cringe everytime I do that

I actually know a 147 owner who had this problem almost two years ago. The bonnet opened while he was driving on the motorway at (luckely, only) 80 km/h.

I don't have to tell how nasty this could have ended. In his case he didn't hit anybody else, and the only damage was to his own car: bonnet catch (duh) bonnet, windshield and roof. The car was 1 year old and due to the damage at the roof it was almost a complete write off.

I used to have pictures, but I lost them

Re: 156 recall

I got the recall notice yesterday. My last one had the opposite of this problem, the mechanism jammed shut, took ages to get the damn thing open. Dropping it makes me cringe as well, goes with a right bang...

Re: 156 recall

A colleagues 156 2.4 oiler had a stuck bonnet recently. The next day saw a 156 on the hard shoulder of the M62 Hull end with a bonnet that had flipped back!

I had problems with it few weeks before official recall (which I never received, despite chasis number of my car is included in recall...) so I am lucky to read this forum and I lubricated it even before reading about offical recal itself.
Also, fortunately, I always drop my bonnet - for me bonet looks to fragile only to push it.

Re: 156 recall

The recommended way to close the 155 bonnet is to drop it shut. Pushing it closed never sounds to me as being too "convincing" anyway.

That is for GTA's to fit reinforced plates to the antiroll bar mountings.

You still need to maintain it and make sure you use the correct method to close it.

Re: 156 recall

Had mine done in November 05, when the recall notice came through the post. Took it to my local dealer, and they kept the car for the day.

When I went to pick it up they had done a full check on the whole car, with a list of things they said needed doing, even though I had had it serviced elsewhere.

When I asked what they had done to the bonnet catch they claimed to have fully striped it down, but it looks like they have just smeered grease on it.

Re: 156 recall

Closed this the proper way...........a week later tried to open it ended up being jammed. After managing to free it, the bonnet will now not shut properly just stays on the safety catch.

Have you actually checked to make sure all the catches move freely and spring back on their own?
