What David said. Good wash off with a cleaning agent, blow dry with an airline if possible, lubricate, then check the mechanism for correct operation?

Yes. I did this after freeing up bonnet.

If it still isn't shutting properly you obviously still have work to do on the bonnet catch.

Also, if you removed the catch to clean it, make sure it is back in the right position. It is adjustable.
