156 alarm NIGHTMARE

I got woke up at 1.30 am by my alarm blasting like a mad man, so i shut it off, when i went in the car this morning to go to work it went mental, wouldnt shut off, now its gone dead and the indicators wont work when i use the fob to lock the doors. the alarm light is constantly on. Is there any way i can reset it???

BTW i found a huge moth in the car today that may have set it off, and put new speakers in the shelf last night as well any ideas??

thanks in advance

Is it a factory fited alarm? Usually any reset is done with a special key. Haven't you got it Stejmiller?

I've recently had this. The alarm unit is fitted in the wing below the expansion tank. It apparently suffers from water ingress (mine overheated). I've had to get a new alarm unit (£300 ) and I'm having it fitted next week. Symptoms are as follow:-
Central locking still works
Imobiliser still works
Indicators no longer flash
Red light on dash just flashes all the time

Thumbs Up Re: 156 alarm NIGHTMARE

I had this last week as well - would stop going off, lasted about 45 mins. When it finally started to calm down, the little red light would flash constantly........even when the car was started!!

So, I disconnected the battery totally and left it overnight. Connected it back up in the morning, it made a bleep and was fine. Has been since.

I think the bleep meant it has reset itself.

Try this first - save spending £300 notes.

Glad it's sorted now.

Just a minor point....if you disconnect the negative wire from the battery then you've disconnected the battery - disconnecting either terminal is the same as disconnecting both. Every electrical device will be dead as soon as you remove the negative cable (or cables if you have more than one).

But that's just a small point in case anyone is reading this in future.

Fortunately under warranty. Quite a nice tale if you search for it (ended up not needing it - now have a boxed new alarm box as a spare! for free)
