JTD Turbo advice

This might be a stupid question but should a diesel turbo be treated the same a petrol turbo......allowing a cooling down period or a couple of miles steady driving before switching off?

I last had a turbo on a Nissan 200sx (piece of junk it was too!!) and the cooling thing was pain but if it must be done...........
