I'm trying to replace the original stereo in my 156 '98 and I've ran into some difficulties, I were very happy to find out the connectors were all ISO standards, all except for one thing. Where it should be an "Ignition" wire, it's just a second "Battery" wire. So my stereo never really turns it self off, now if it was like the original with a total off-switch that would be fine. But the one I've got doesn't turn itself fully off, displays the clock and have a dimmed light.
I don't really know how problematic this is, perhaps it still uses so little power it never will drain the battery but don't feel too optimistic.
Anyway is there any rather simple and solid solution to this? I've considered just extending the second battery-wire to a switch under the dash, but that's really an emergency solution. I noticed the original had a third connector, where it had a few things like BUS contacts, is this what would normally tell the stereo if the ignition were on or off? And if so, is it possible to buy some BUS translation unit that will give out an ignition lead to connect into the new stereo?
