I got My GT two years ago, and done 17k miles in that time. (got the car with 50ishk on), had a full service history. so am not sure if the belt and pump has been changed before i got it.
Is there anywhere i can find out what was done in the previous services? (its was a ex company car)
been quoted £420 for the new cam and pump so far. so dont fancy paying out if it has been changed at 50k service.
Unlikely the belt has been changed before as the official change interval is still 72,000 miles/5 years, whichever occurs first. This is too long anyway, as the waterpumps have been known to fail on the 16v/20v engines earlier than this. Take a look at the sticky thread on this topic in this lounge.
As Pud (Dan) suggests get the idler done as well - these have been known to fail. So you need cambelt/tensioner/idler/coolant change doing, the quote of £420 sounds a bit high to me, specialists usually charge in the range £300-350 for this job.
Hope you get it sorted soon.
