Hi fellow alfistas!!!
I have just recently bought myself an Alfa GT, you don't need to me tell u how pretty she is!!
But like all strippers she don't come cheap! She looks amazing in her multi-spoke 18" steletoes, but she now needs some new new soles...
How much should I be looking to pay for some decent part worn tyres and what make are the best to go for?...
Answers and creative responses in the comment section below :))

My experience of part-worns is that you usually get what you're given. You may well want Bridgestones but if all he's got is Okey Cokey 2000s or Montezuma Dark Horses, that's what you get.

That said, I'd rather have decent brand part-worns that ****ty plastic Chinese ditchfinders.

be very, very careful buying "part worn" tyres :tut:

you wouldn't believe the amount we see that have just been bought, and they come to us with punctures. thay have more often thatn not had a didgy repair in the sidewall, totally against the british repair standards :tut:

not saying there aren't decent used tyres to be had, but unless you know what to look for then you are asking for trouble ;)

as a bit of info, does anyone know where these part worn tyres come from?? i do.

think about it, how many of us go into a tyre place and say "just put a full set on, don't worry that 3 are still good" doesn't happen :tut:

want to know??

They come from scrapped cars. At which point everyone gasps and says they must be from write-offs. However, huge numbers of cars get scrapped just because they are getting on a bit and nobody wants them.

According to my tyre bloke, the perfectly good cars scrapped under the scrappage scheme in return for 300,000 new cars have provided plenty of stock.

Ultimately, every time you buy a used car, or a used set of alloys, it comes with a set of part worn tyres.

a lot of tyres come from germany from what im led to believe and if you check side wall they will have m&s which are mud and snow traction, depending on time of year they are collected and they come in by the container load ..........part worn tyre suppliers check tread and carcass visually and price them up accordingly
remould tyre makers for instance use only decent carcasses and i believe michellin is one of favourites but their selection process is high tech and discard over 50% or more

Do yourself a favour and don't buy part worn's if you want your Gt to drive as it should.
You can buy a quality "budget" tyre such as an Accelera, Marangoni or Federal etc in a 225/40ZR18 for approx £70.00 a corner including VAT fitted with valve and balancing, you will pay around £30.00 for a shabby tyre in the same size that has worn to the "tracking" of an unknown vehicle that could make your car as unpredictable as a Schitzophrenic on Charlie.
It's not a high price to pay if you want to stay in love with your Alfa.

lets face it you have small contact patch of say size of 2 credit cards at each corner ,lets keep it that way and flex card at tyre dealer for some new rubber:p

i remember a chap come into my local motorcycle dealer paid 9k(cheap deal as well) for latest superbike capable of almost 200mph and bought a helmet for £60:eek: and my dealer refused to sell him bike till he paid decent money for a quality helmet, the saying goes you only got one head:cool: so in this instance use your head and dont skimp:thumbs:
